There are countless factors to take into consideration when designing your dream kitchen. Looking at inspiration boards or doing any kitchen research can sometimes be overwhelming when they make you fall in love with multiple styles, colours or finishes. The wisest thing to do, in this case, is to simplify your options through a list of must-haves and preferences. So, to help you with this process, we created this guide with absolute top tips that should help you make the right choices when designing your dream kitchen. Our Tips #1 Identify your style There are multiple styles to choose from for your design- from traditional to shaker, modern or rustic styled kitchens. But which is more appropriate to your lifestyle? Which best represents who you are, how you want to live your space? And on a broader scale, where is your home-based? What can you take from your surrounding environment that you can bring into your design, not just for your kitchen but your entire home? These are all questions that can help you select the perfect style that fits your space and life. #2 Identify your priorities How much time do you spend in your kitchen, and how much do you cook or prep your meals? How can you functionally use your space? Where do you store your breakfast cereal or your pans and pots? What needs to be close to the sink? What should go below the hob? And so on… Make sure you understand how your kitchen must work to accommodate your use before going too far into other choices. #3 Define the layout Merge your logistic priorities with your ideal layout that fits your space. Will you be making the most out of your walls but adding cabinetry adjacent to them, from bottom to top? Do you want to install an island? Will your kitchen plan be connected with a dining space? Is your space L shaped or a square? Maximise your space through smart use of cabinetry. #4 Leave enough circulation space There’s nothing worse in a kitchen than not having enough space to move around, open all your doors or take your hot food from your oven without knocking into your island. Make sure you leave enough space so that you and your family can move comfortably without bumping into each other. #5 Plan your cabinetry according to the perfect height for your appliances and incorporate them Your cabinetry is not just there to impress your guest with beautiful design but should be the element that makes your kitchen super functional. Not only will it allow you to have a good amount of room to store your kitchenware, but it will also help you position your appliances at the right height, giving you a safe and comfortable placement to use them. Make sure you plan their positions with care, letting them become an asset and not an annoyance. #6 Make the best use of your natural light Prioritising natural light, especially in the morning and early afternoon is always a must in a kitchen. Not only does this help you enjoy your time in your kitchen, but it also helps illuminate the best assets of your kitchen, from its colour to your chosen design elements. Next month we'll continue this topic with another 6 tips you should follow when designing your kitchen! Stay tunned!
