Before and Afters

There is nothing more satisfying than working on a project and comparing the end result with what the room looked like initially. Seeing how the creative process can transform a space, and aligning that with happy clients is really the reason why we still are in this field after 40 years. For that reason, we decided to do a round up on some of our best projects, showing the before and after photos and going through some of the different kitchen styles we can design.

For this detached Edwardian house extension, we created a design filled with striking features. The project is bold but perfectly balances different textures and materials into one space.
On one side, we see the cabinetry finished in a Japanese Tamo Ash veneer, with bespoke internal drawers with cutlery & utensil inserts in American White Oak in dovetailed construction. Its internal organisation is maximised with hafele pull out wire basket larders and pocket door larders with mirror back and glass display shelves.
On the other side, we have a Marble wall with splashes of bright blue.
Both sides, aligned with the stunning Neolith Iron Grey Worktop, create a great contrast with the remaining cabinetry, finished in Farrow & Ball’s Cornforth White colour.

The overall transformation is a stunning remodel, bringing an entire new life and light to the space. The scale of the kitchen space feels bigger and optimises the layout’s organisation. But most of all, the central island with the induction hob allows for a great cooking experience, making this space perfect to host dinner parties.

This period terraced house with a beautiful rear garden came to us with a dark and busy kitchen. To turn it into a bright and joyous space with a stronger connection to the garden, we fitted in a striking layout of veneered kitchen cabinets finished in a Moreton Bay Chestnut 'Crown Blackbean' colour.
Internally, the solid American white oak drawers, hafele pull out larder and spice racks make the most of the small space.
The red worktop was switched with a riven finished brazilian slate that blends really well with the cabinets.
As a last touch, we rebuilt the open shelves on the wall, giving the kitchen an extra bit of life.

Overall, we kept the same original format of the kitchen, but modernised all the materials, and made better use of the internal areas of the cabinetry. The end result is a colourful and personal kitchen that follows the taste of the client but with a bright and current design.

This Hindmans Framed Shaker Kitchen is still one of our most popular projects to date. Packed with design details and character, it completely changes the space from what it was before.
The cabinetry is finished in Paint & Paper Library’s Squid Ink tone, hiding a combination of drawers in solid American White Oak and full extension runners.
The solid oak shelves above the sink are placed to break the rhythm of the thick cabinetry, allowing for an extra decorative element that compliments the space.
As for the central island, it sets the base for a stunning Silestone Expo Gris Worktop, with a suede finish.

The final space is more than just a kitchen, opening into a dining area that blends perfectly with the blue kitchen. The big windows bring in lots of natural light, giving the traditional shaker shape room to shine.

Another one of our popular traditional shaker kitchens, this Little Greene’s Livid coloured kitchen completely revamped the original space.
The cabinets are supported by an internal combination of soft closing runners and concealed hinges, blum storage tower, magic corners and floating shelves.
The polished chrome drawer handles and knobs give a last touch to the overall look of the kitchen, and the stunning Caesarstone London Grey blends perfectly with the tone on the walls.

The new plan permits for this small kitchen to be packed with organisation. The green tone makes the cabinets stand out, illuminated by the two big windows that frame this u-shaped design.

This small and warm kitchen is set in an open plan lounge with a view to the Shard, in London.
Minimalistic and simple, the layout combines cabinets in Dulux’s Jasmine White as well as American Cherry veneered cabinets. The island is crafted to maximise organisation, with an articulation of deep drawers and pull-out shelves that give our client comfort and design.
The Verona quartz worktop adds the perfect softness to the cherry tones, creating a relation between the kitchen and walls of the lounge.

Overall, the new layout makes the most out of this lounge’s corner, not only by incorporating more space-efficient cabinets against the wall, but also by adding the island as a break between the cooking area and dining table.

Conclusions

These are only some examples of how a masterful design can completely change the space of a kitchen, and sometimes even a dining or lounge area.
The range and variety of layouts and plans that you can create is endless, from the efficient and traditional Shaker Kitchens, to modern concepts and shapes that make the best use of your space.
However, the most important part of a design is how it fits you and your specific needs. That is when a project is entirely successful, and that is also why all of our projects are unique and completely bespoke- to make sure they fit the client.
